A Return to Sketching

Well, my dear imaginary readers,

It's a new year, I'm graduated, unemployed, and disillusioned (but in the best, slightly supercilious and snarky way). 

Now that I am done with school for the immediate future, I've been returning to drawing, as well as knitting, spinning, writing, and other things I do - this week I've been cleaning up/damage controlling in the garden.

One of my Christmas presents this holiday season was a hand-me-down Lenovo Yoga, which features a touch screen, so somewhere in the back of my mind was the idea of computer graphics.  One sketch in particular is destined for this experiment, but once I started, I found myself just enjoying the act of sketching itself.  I'd missed it. 

So here are the innings:


The elf king is the one I think could do with some computer attention, and the sketch page below with the accompanying thumbnails are exploration for a possible creative writing project dealing with North Carolina wildlife - children's stories with a certain edge.

Dear Imaginary Readers.

I think I'm back.  Think, because sometimes, from day to day, I feel like a completely different person, and as a full time college student, this is the time of year when the world seems to come unglued around the ears.

Looking back at some of the posts from the beginning of 2010, I'm amazed.  And not in a good way.  Another blog author I read talked about the rising level of maturity she could see in her own writing after sticking with her blog for a number of years.  She said you just had to stick with it.  Well, I didn't.  Then.  But I hope to give it a try now.

The posts with specific "-day" appellations like a book review every Thursday and a story serial every Saturday and some sketches every Friday weren't necessarily a bad idea, but I doubt I'll have the time or inclination to do them EVERY Thursday, Friday and Saturday. 

I'm not going to be ambitious this time around.  I'm not going to dream about having a massive following.  I'm not even going to give in to the temptation to constantly check the "Overview" and "Stats" pages from the dashboard.  And, the second week of December, I'm flying across the country for my best friend's wedding, and before that I have finals.  So above all, I'm not going to be a slave to this blog.  I have a life (I do!) so I will only post on my schedule.

And I'll try to make sure that what I want to say is either worth being said or at least said the best way I know how before I hit that Publish button.

Changes

To make posting easier (finding topics), I've changed the title of the blog to reflect some of my other main interests aside from art and writing. Whether I'll be any more assiduous in posting on a regular basis... well, that remains to be seen. I do have a short essay brewing in my head (plus a book review), but with two college papers due by the 28th, we'll have to see. How on earth am I going to survive once I transfer to UNCC? *Sigh* I'll just have to dye my hair blue.

Coming Soon...

I'm not going to have a theme for every day of the week, but I think I will have a theme for two or three. Obviously, Thursday 'View is one. I'll try to write a serialized short story with on-going elements and recurring characters. I've got an old idea sheet with characters and basic - very basic - plot worked out already, and I'll try to do something with that... but not now; 'cos I've kinda let my school reading get ahead of me. Edited to say that, tentatively, the three themed days will be: Thursday 'View, Figure Study Friday, and The Saturday Issue. Maybe I'll post in between those days, maybe I won't. It'll depend on what I've got to say.
